Meet the designer behind BULLY BOY-
A Toronto designed and made label that makes provocative and modern lingerie inspired by strength and the feminine spirit.
We caught up with Vanessa at her studio and talked about her design process and her love of the great Canadian city.

How does Toronto inspire your creative process?
I get a lot of inspiration from just walking around the city. Toronto has a lot of green space mixed in with all the houses and buildings and shops. The colours and shapes and people lend a lot to my process.

What does a typical day as a lingerie designer and business owner look like?
Walk to the studio in the morning with my dog Baby. Then map out the day. Usually reply to emails first and order any necessary supplies then plan our production for the day. Lay out the orders that need to be made. Since our pieces are made to order. We cut the orders on our cutting board then it goes to serging and stitching. The end of the day we pack the orders for shipping the following day.

We love your label's photography - what is the idea behind these images and how do you want people to view your pieces?
Photography plays a major role in Bully Boy. In this social media age, your photos are your personal advertisements. From the jump I wanted Bully to stand out and look sharp. Your work is your art and it should be presented as such. Working with such incredible photographers over the years, stylist, models and makeup artists. I have been very lucky to have such a great team. They all bring the work to life in their own ways. Every line tells a different story, but we really try to keep it sexy, fun and empowering.
Any other Canadian makers or shops you want to give a shout out to that people should follow and tap into?
Some of my favorite Toronto designers right now are Sample Sample, Mifi, In Objects We Trust.
My favourite shop is 100% Silk - they showcase small designers and makers from around the world. It is a very special spot, and dangerously close to my studio.
Toronto also has incredible vintage shops like Chosen, 96 Tears and Racket Vintage to name a few.
