Azaleas opened with a small dream in 2002. The concept of lingerie as clothing was novel and initially opened with a robust camisole and bed jacket assortment.
I never thought I’d start from a sleepy block on 10th street in the East Village and move on “up” to 2nd avenue.
The new East Village storefront (2012) was and is the perfect space for us. Slightly sunken for privacy but still well-trafficked, the avenue exposure helped our business thrive and grow.
We couldn't have stuck around without the support of friends, long-time customers and the neighborhood, but most importantly all the sales staff that has come and gone through our doors over the years. The team has been a diverse group of people to date, but all work hard, have a good sense of humor and know how to make customers feel at ease in an intimate, not-always-comfortable shopping experience.
I want to thank all the old and current Azaleas team members that have helped me cultivate the boutique culture I've strived to create for the past 20 years.
